近年、横浜市近郊の住宅地として人口が急増している十日市場エリアは、横浜市による十日市場市の区画再調整事業の完了を記念して、1989年と1992年にそれぞれノースプラザとサウスプラザ周辺の広場が整備された。 計画では、十日市場の名前の由来である「マーケット」と十日市場の地域特性や歴史を踏まえた「ツリー」のデザインテーマを設定し、歴史と進歩の共生を図り、独特の地元の雰囲気を醸し出す広場を計画した。 また、バスシェルターはプロジェクトの中心であり、ベースユニットはさまざまな光を写し込む切妻のバリエーションで構成されている。

Tokaichiba is located inland of Yokohama City, 12 kn1 from downtown Yokohama, and 27 km from downtown Tokyo.  The Tokaichiba Area in recent years has seen a rapid increase in population as a residential suburb of Yokohama, and it is also undergoing development as part of the Bunkyo Area. In celebrating the completion of the Tokaichiba City Lot Readjusting Project by Yokohama City, plaza surroundings of North Plaza and South Plaza were improved in 1989 and in 1992 respectively.  In the plan, the design theme was set for "Market" which is the origin of the name of Tokaichiba and "Tree" considering the local characteristics and the history of Tokaichiba. Also a symbiosis between history and advancement was attempted, and creation of the plaza carrying the unique local atmosphere was planned.  The bus shelter is the center of this project and its base unit consists of a variation on a gables intended to create a variety of expressions of light. Surrounding the plaza in a continuous mode creates a lively, dynamic and advanced scenery. Plaza lighting in the center of the rotary is located between three zelkova trees, and tree figures such as trunks and branches are used as the motif of the lighting structure design to show the contrast between nature and artifice.  The surface is covered with aluminum punched metal to create expressions of day and night. By developing all the items from street furniture to plants and pavement designs under the theme of"Market" and "Tree", local identity was established and both plazas were designed as one unit. We hope that as a result of this improvement, the plazas will be able to expand into the city streets which spread from these plazas and blend into people's daily lives, instead of being used as closed space.
