Everyone aspiring to be a motorcycle designer will encounter machines that arouse their admiration. In my case, it was DUCATI’s M900. This model, designed by motorcycle designer Miguel Galluzzi, impressed me with its uniquely simple appearance that embodies the aesthetics of subtraction. But the appeal of M900 goes beyond how it looks. Its composing elements, such as engine, tank, frame and seat, are well organized to present an extremely beautiful shape according to the concept of mass centralization, which is essential to sports motorcycles. It struck me as an object that epitomized the essence of motorcycle design. I was able to get one soon after I started working at GK Dynamics. Though I had to part with it, I was given a chance to obtain another one more than 20 years later. Now as a specialist of motorcycle design, I can see this model through the eyes of professional designers. But its original fascinations have remained undiminished in my mind since my first encounter with it.
