I started a life with surfing three months ago. That was because our company introduced a working from home policy, which allowed me to choose an area l had been longing to live in since my days as a student. As I moved to a place near the sea, I decided to take this opportunity to enjoy surfing.
I’m still a beginner of surfing, but I’ve come to realize that riding the waves smoothly is like working in harmony with water rather than controlling my body movement against water. Catching the right timing is a key to successfully launching the surfing board. I have been enthralled by this unique feeling surfing can provide unlike any other kinds of sports.
In my early days of working as a designer, I believed from my experience that design projects were similar to water. Even when a project seemed to be going without a hitch, an unexpected comment from the client could make for rough going. Handling a project seemed like going through an invisible process that was full of variety and hard to control. That was how I saw the projects.
Recently, I’ve come to think it’s more suitable for me to adjust myself to my surroundings in harmonious ways rather than controlling what’s happening around me in deliberate manners. That’s what I have been feeling in my mind these days.
