Q Designing the Quietness - Contemporary Finnish Design Friday, October 10 - Tuesday, October 28 Venue: Living Design Center OZONE (Park Tower Hall) The Q exhibition: The exhibition Q presents the past, present and future of Finnish design. It looks at contemporary Finnish design from a fresh perspective and creates a strong experience of the theme quietness conveying the emotional, intuitive, multi-sensory and intellectual qualities of Finnish design, architecture and art. ![]() 1. The Future of Finnish Design The exhibition examines the theme quietness through three different parts. The first part of the exhibition is a vision of future. Fifteen of Finland's most accomplished designers, architects, artists and craftsmen have been invited to give their interpretation of the theme and to create new works for the exhibition. 3. The Finnish people and a heritage of material culture The third part of the exhibition presents the cultural background from which Finnish design has grown. The photographs in this section, depicting Finnish people in typical sitting positions, are taken by Photographer Sami Perttil. A heritage of material culture is rendered visible by a number of classic Finnish everyday objects placed around the images |

The Book A bilingual (English and Japanese) book has been published in co-operation with the University of Art and Design Helsinki to accompany the exhibition. The book is an independent work, addressing the themes of the exhibition through Finnish design, art and architecture. The book is edited by designer Barbro Kulvik, and designed by Professor Tapani Aartomaa. Annu Ahonen, head publisher, from the University of Art and Design Helsinki is in charge of its publication. The book includes articles and interviews written by Ulla Aartomaa, Museum Curator (Lahti Art Museum), Teija Isohauta, Museum Curator (Alvar Aalto Museum), Esa Laaksonen, Architect (Alvar Aalto Academy), Yrjana Levanto, Professor (University of Art and Design Helsinki), Juhani Pallasmaa, Professor, Architect, Yrjo Sotamaa, Professor (University of Art and Design Helsinki), Kenji Ekuan, Professor, Chairman (GK-Design Group), Maarit Seling, Journalist and Kjell Westo, Author.
