“Yurikamome New 7300” car body system

GK designed a train car body with a medium capacity for urban transit systems for Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. The new train body model was introduced by Tokyo Waterfront New Transit Yurikamome connecting Shimbashi and Toyosu at the occasion of the plan to replace its trains. All possible devices were applied to lighten the body and to offer comfort to passengers by using aluminum bodies and applying resin mold injection for the core of high back bucket seats, the first case in Japan for the railway train.

The use of genuine leather seats in all classes of travel enhances the brand’s image, and at the same time, the improved functionality creates a new relaxing space that is both more convenient and comfortable. ASRA C1

Asra C1 is a concept robot for demonstration of the operation system “V-Sido.” The concept is to help nursing care at home. Four arms are able to “open the door while holding things in both hands” which is not possible for humans. The face has an innocent look suggestive of future potentiality. A humane interface is necessary for humanoids. Using soft artificial leather, interaction with touch between users and the robot is emphasized and at the same time, affinity with an interior environment is also sought.

Yamaha Livingtech Corporation changed its name to Toclas Corporation on October 1, 2013. GK was involved in the rebranding process, from conducting a brand survey, naming, the development of visual elements including the logo mark, and partially in the logo in order to visualize the “quality and intention” of Toclas products to enrich people’s daily life, and to convey the company’s philosophy “to live to support customers’ daily life.”

“SR Viper” snowmobile

SRViper is a U.S.-made off-trail snowmobile for the young. It features a sharp, compact and light design which evokes a scene of it running through a rolling snowfield with high speed. With the pointed front nose shaped like the letter V, intake (Chevron Grill) and long and narrow headlight (Evil Eye), we intended to design it in a way that everyone would immediately identify it as a Yamaha snowmobile.
A1200 type low floor streetcar

Design of the first low floor streetcar in Sapporo. The car was introduced as the symbol to spearhead the plan to reactivate the city. The exterior design with sharp lines and black and white colors expresses the transparent air of Sapporo city, and its simple cityscape with strong contrast. For the interior, wood grown in Hokkaido is applied to emphasize the local flavor. The curved ceiling and indirect lighting create a comfortable space.

“La Cantine” canned mackerel fillets

Package design for new brand canned food products developed to fit new mealtime scenes that have taken a firm hold among young housewives. To reflect the product concept of “casual French cuisine at home,” the package was designed in the image of western ceramic dishes to look atractive in a kitchen and on the table, sweeping away the conventional canned food image. Their expressions may well serve as impressive interior decorations and gifts.

“Bufferin series” pain relief

Package design for Bufferin series, a long-time favorite official drug for fever and pain relief among families. Since 1998 when it was involved in the first package renewal for the medicine, GK has designed packages for the series. We intended to show the sense of presence reflecting the needs of contemporary people, and the diverse scenes of use, while maintaining the long lasting trust and sense of safety in the medicine.

The catalog of the exhibition “The World of Kenji Ekuan and GK Design Group: Soaring High in the Sky” held at Setagaya Art Museum from July 6 (Sat) to September 1 (Sun), 2013, introducing the activities of GK Design Group centered by Chairman Kenji Ekuan.
The exhibition introduced the works that Kenji Ekuan and GK Group practiced for sixty years. Also, the exhibition expressed the original thoughts of GK Group by the installation implemented the world in which man, nature and implements beautifully co-exist.
