
Expo’70 Osaka : Multiple faces clock
Japan Association for the 1970 World Exposition
EXPO’70 Osaka held in Osaka in 1970 lifted the curtain of 70s. The exposition became momentum of tremendous change in Japan such as full opening of Tokaido Shinkansen (bullet train) line. In design also, a variety of facilities in the exposition site became objectives of design and they were developed and established as a professional realms.
Street furniture (fixtures laid out and installed outdoors) and signs (signage for directory alike) had tended to be treated a miscellaneous items. To break the notion, they were officially taken as a design objectives in EXPO’70 Osaka.
While many objects and departments came to join to implement the project, the establishment of a methodology and a process of it was required. Therefore EXP0’70 Osaka became a best ever opportunity being recognized and establishing a new design realm.
