The square was developed as part of the redevelopment of the area around the Miyajimaguchi ferry terminal on the opposite shore of Itsukushima Island in Hiroshima. The shape of the plaza was designed with the motif of shamoji, a traditional local product. Benches and exterior furniture allow it to be used for a variety of purposes. In the design process, we considered the spatial connection with the adjacent terminal, commercial facilities, and tram platform, striving to connect the flow of people and eliminate boundaries.
