We designed a bench for Hokomichi, a new road utilization project that provides an enhanced pedestrian comfort.  The bench was produced as a verification item for the Midosuji Challenge 2022, a social experiment on Midosuji, a street in Osaka, where a long-term sidewalk widening project is planned.  We examined the challenges associated with the bench from various perspectives: how to create a multi-purpose resting space; how to manage the main body and the functional extension parts; how to provide a variability for the wide street use; what are the shapes and colors that harmonize with the urban landscape; and what measures can ensure the safety of the walking space and prevent mischief.
