World Design Organization (WDO/formerly known as icsid), an internationally renowned design organization, decided to host its largest event World Design Assembly in Tokyo next fall. This will be the third time World Design Assembly is hosted in Japan and the first time in 34 years, as the event was hosted in Kyoto in 1973 and Nagoya in 1989. The international members of WDO and the parties concerned will be present at World Design Assembly and discuss the role of design in solving social challenges and the future outlook.

The theme of the World Design Assembly 2023 is Design Beyond – Renaissance for Convivial Society. Having experienced the coronavirus crisis, we reconfirmed the importance of being humane. We will review the current trend in design, which focuses on business creation through innovations and solutions, and reconsider a design to pursue “true spiritual affluence,” which is beyond.
