The 40+ years old pedestrian deck at the north side of Fujisawa Station was one of the earliest adoptions of the kind in Japan. GK Sekkei collaborated with Nippon Engineering Consultants Co., Ltd. and participated in its renewal project from the selection process to the actual engineering. To improve its function as a plaza, Twin Slab structure was employed to reinforce the existing slab with the new slab for the better walkability and aseismic capacity, which also contributed to eliminating the level difference. As a result, a large open green space was formed with the rearranged plantations for various events. In addition, lighting plan was overhauled to improve the night safety on the deck as well as the light intensity at the bus terminal underneath it.
