Design for "the Quietness"
Mr. Yrjo Sotamaa (Recter, University of Art and Design Helsinki UIAH) often referred to quietness in his interview in the context of a sound environment. He used this against the noisy city environments of today. This can be true to a visual world. Can design of quietness be achieved just by simplicity?
A Japanese tea house is made of various elements of various materials, yet, quietness is there. The chirring of cicadas may be noisy, yet, the forest is serene as one's impression. But in the bustle of a big city, one can never find serenity. We need to do something to turn the noises of a city into a pleasant environment such as a forest. (Masato Isaka)
