Although Finland and Japan have differences in their history, culture, demographic and geographical nature, both nations have been building their unique position in the world society through their ethos in nature and man made things and the development of state of art industries. Today, we could recognize life culture in which people enjoy form of things and culture of simple formative works in common for both.

In April, 2001, in Tokyo, the 2nd Japan Finland Design Symposium with the theme "Design of the Quietness" was held as the official operation of the association. The symposium was made possible by kind cooperation of Finnish design field and corporations considering design as business resources. The theme was to propose to heal, from designers' point of view, on peoples' ailing mind affected by the side effect of modern industries such as global environmental issues.

The 3rd symposium, with same theme as the 2nd event, was held on February 25, 2002 in Helsinki. *Symposium Program
